Spring Cleaning Your Routine

It is that time of year again and are you ready?

It is important to be conscience about the length of time you have had been using your skin care and make-up products.

Unfortunately, we all get consumed in life and sometimes lose track of time and become forgetful, but it is important to know that your skincare products and make-up products don't last forever.

Seasons are changing and so are the layers of our skin. It is recommended that you change your products regularly so you do not use expired product on your face because that could lead to other factors that could pose a problem that could be prevented.

Below is a chart for easier understanding of the time frame of replacing your products. Now this is a guideline but it is your responsibility to ensure you are being conscience of the change of consistency, smell and appearance of your skincare and make-up products.
Skin Care and Cosmetics Time Frame
Item
Time Frame
Reasoning
Moisturisers
6-8 Months
·         The continuation of opening and closing the product allows oxygen to enter the container and which shifts the relationship between the ingredients
·         Natural face oils can be transferred into the skin care which could allow the benefits to diminish over time
·         Ingredients don’t last forever in a product and if used longer than allowed, you could develop a reaction to the ingredients that have expired.
Eye Liners
3-6 Months
·         Whether they are self sharpened or manual sharpened liners you need to replace these more often because our eyes are one part of the face that carry bacteria
·         If you have had an eye infection, you need to replace your pencil right away and not use anything until the infection is gone
·         Temperature change could pose a threat to your pencil as well as it causes the pencil (if manual sharpened) to break and won’t be any good.
Mascara
4-6 Months
·         Very important to change this item regularly because this is the closest product that gets to your eye
·         Same as above with the eyeliners, you need to be aware if you have had infections you need to change it right away
·         NEVER share mascara
·         You will notice that the product will become more clumped and dry and there will be a smell to the turning of the product. That’s how you know it is time to replace it
·         Oxygen enters the cylinder and that is what changes the product and causes the drying effect over time
Eye Shadows
Seasonal
·         Seasonal, your eye shadows should be changed because they don’t last forever same as any other product
·         Over time, you will notice that with prolonged use, the shadow will present an extra film on top and it would be hard to get shadow onto the applicator and that is when it is time to change it.
·         Also, you will notice your shadow will be chalky and falling apart, you need a new shadow
Sunscreen
Yearly
·         Pay close attention to this one in particular if it is in your moisturisers because the life of your moisturiser won’t last as long because the issues mentioned above stay the same.
·         Every summer you should have a new bottle or sunscreen spray because the ingredients especially (Titanium Dioxide-which is the sunscreen ingredient) shifts the product and separates over time
·         Reactions minor and major could occur and rashes can form if you use a product with expired sunscreen in them

Hope you find these tips informative and help you understand why it is important to be aware of what you are applying to your face. Prevent something major from happening by being aware of the life of your products.

Enjoy!
