Now a lot of you are probably thinking what is that five letter word? I have never heard of that word before! And you probably have that confused look on your face. But wait, I will explain it is a language we all can understand! :)
Do you ever wonder what those tiny white bumps on your face are? They show up under your eyes, beside your nose, chin, cheeks, and even along your hair line? Well that is what we call milia. (pronounced Meal-lee-ah). Now I know some of you are saying, "oh yeah i know what that is now!" or "i am still not following what that is!"
Milia- milia is a superficial cyst filled with dead skin cells and debris. Which is sometimes called a small calcium deposit under the skins layers.
Also, if you have developed them along the hairline then it is from excess amount of hair products either not washed out enough or it has made contact with your skin and throughout the day you perspire which can cause a blocked pore. The only way to safely remove them is to use a lancet. (Lancet is an instrument that has a sharp end, but is not a needle and is only to be used by a Certified/ Licenced Skin Therapist.)
If you have no time to see a professional then you are able to exfoliate the areas of concern by yourself at home, just it may take a bit longer to get rid of them. Next time you schedule a facial ask your therapist what they would recommend and if they can look at any milia you may have.
To keep your pores and skin hydrated make sure you are drinking lots of water!
Enjoy!!
Always Cleanse Before Exfoliating
Cleansing your face before you exfoliate it it a big must!
Why you ask?
Think for a minute here, you start your morning off by washing your face, applying your moisturizer and makeup, go on with your day. Once you step outside you are exposing yourself to all the elements in the air (pollution, exhaust fumes in the air, cold air, warm air, etc.). So keeping that in mind, when your day is complete and you are ready to do your nightly skin care routine, and you go to exfoliate first before cleansing.
You still have your makeup on, the elements of the day, and any other dirt and debris that is on your face that you cannot see with the naked eye. When you go to exfoliate first, your not cleaning away the dirt, debris, elements, and makeup, you are basically pushing everything into your pores more. So eventually you are going to have a bad reaction and breakout.
The purpose of cleansing your face is to remove the elements, dirt, debris, and makeup and to cleanse the pores along with it. Your exfoliant is suppose to help the cleansing of dead skin cells and pores. So you want to use it after you give your face a good cleanse.
Enjoy!

Rescue 101 For Dry Cracked Hands
When the colder weather hits and you are not prepared for it, your hands will be wishing you were more prepared.
In the wintertime or even colder weather changes, your hands are the first ones to be touched by the chilly air. Some of us don't wear the proper protection (gloves, mittens, etc.) and that's when we pay the damaging price.
Every ounce of moisture gets sucked out of your hands, which leads them to feel tight and then you notice they start to crack. At this point, you need to stop anymore damage from happening. When you let your hands go unprotected you can develop circulation problems later in life and also develop arthritic symptoms as well later on.
To help heal your hands I have narrowed down my list of hand cremes depending on skin type:
1.) Arbonne Ultra-Hydrating Hand Creme (all skin types)
2.) The Body Shop- Almond Oil Hand and Nail Creme (for all skin types)
3.) The Body Shop- Hemp Hand Creme (for very dry skin)
This is my recommendation. Everyone has their own favourites.
Bundle those hands up and take care of them! Unfortunately, they age faster if they are left uncared for. Enjoy!

Guys Can Do It To!
Guys this one is completely for you! Lucky you :)
Ever wonder why your skin is dry and itchy after you shave? Do you get that dreaded peeling skin? Does it drive you nuts throughout the day?
Well its probably because your skin needs some TLC!
You probably use the foam shave creme or the gel shave creme and you probably chose that certain can because the colours were bright or you watched a commercial that girls ended up showing up after you used it. Well, sorry guys, packaging doesn't give you the results and the commercials lied and you fell for it.
In order to help your itchy, dry skin, you need to be applying a moisturizer after you shave. The benefits work for you all as well. Even if you still have some facial hair, applying moisturizer to your whole face and to the facial hair will help next time you decide to shave.
Nothing like taking care of yourself. It definitely will not make you any less of a person. So its alright to know what is in your products too.
And guys, SOAP, is not a good shaving staple. Never use soap. You not only will dull your blades, your face will dry out quicker.
If you find you get alot of ingrown hairs, no problem, just pick up an gentle exfoliant and a soft bristled toothbrush and use that as a great tool for releasing the ingrown hair from being trapped under the skin. (Just make sure you don't mix the toothbrushes up FYI)
It's all about living and learning. Guys need just as much attention to skin care as women do. And there is nothing wrong with it at all. It's both normal and beneficial. Take care of your skin, it will thank you.

Chasing Your Eyeliner When It's Running Away From You
Oh that dreaded raccoon look that we all wonder how in just a few short hours, our eyeliner begins to run away on us.
We have all been through it, we get ready for work in the morning, looking perfectly dressed, a beautiful makeup application and yes you guessed it, by lunch time, you have developed a look that could scare you; the raccoon eye look.
We stand in front of the mirror, using toilet paper, paper towel and even our fingers to try to wipe the look away from under the eyes. Unfortunately those (3) ways of removing the issue at hand, are not the safest.
Under our eyes, the skin is extremely thin and the blood vessels are closer to the surface, so if you are using something rough and abrasive, you can break blood vessels which then lead to "dark circles" under or around your eyes.
We don't realize how much bacteria is on our hands. So next time you go to wipe your makeup from under your eyes or even touch your face, remember what you last touched. Bacteria on your face and near your eyes can cause infections, breakout, etc. Just be aware!
Here is a quick solution to fix the dreaded raccoon eye look:
An easier way to help your makeup from running is to set your eyeliner!
It is a simple trick to finish you look before you leave the house. There are (3) ways to do this:
1.) Setting Powder- (Laura Mercier-Loose Setting Powder)
2.) Eyeshadow - Use a colour close enough to your liner and put it on top of the liner to help it hold on.
3.) Toner- Misting a bit of toner or misting spray on your face will help in setting your powder and give you a flawless look as well. (Firming Tonic Facial Mist-Osmotics)
Also, as in a previous posted article, you do not want to add eyeliner to the lower lid as that could lead to infections. Applying to the lower lid is another huge reason your eyeliner runs because throughout the day your eyes water, its natural, and your eyeliner will wash away. As long as you are educating yourself and learning from mistakes you will eventually understand. Practice makes perfect.

On The Inside It Isn't Alright
We all do it! We all think that our product is still ok. But really, on the inside, it isn't.
When we notice that we have expired product we sometimes ask ourselves;
"Maybe I can get a few more uses out of it!" or "I have spent so much money on this product, that I will feel so guilty throwing it away"
Well, to be honest, you will be doing yourself and your skin a favour! Expired product is like anything else that expires. It turns and you aren't getting all those fantastic benefits that the product claims to be giving you. It doesn't matter how much you spend on a product, they all turn and expire.
Would you rather use that expired $50 face cream in hopes that it continues to help with Anti-Aging benefits and come to find out it did the opposite and damaged layers of your skin that you may now need other, more expensive alternative skin care procedures? I didn't think so!
I have seen first hand the damage and results of using an expired product and it really isn't worth it. This goes for any product, body lotion, face cream, shaving cream, shampoo, conditioner, etc.
Awareness of your products is just as important as being aware of the things you ingest on a daily basis.
Enjoy! :)

Sweet Tooth and The Potential Consequences
We are all victims to our weaknesses for sweets and then delicious treats at the holiday season! But with the holiday season approaching, I am just going to give my advice on a certain topic. As I have experienced this.
You want the best possible Holiday photo right? You normally are the type that says I don't like that one take another? Well the small solution to this dilemma is be aware of the things entering your body.
Your skin tells a few stories and it shows the kind of things you eat. So when you are sitting around have a wonderful time indulging in treats and those delicious homemade pies, remember this: Mix in some fruit and veggies.
Fruits and Vegetables are great healthy alternatives and are natural. I know for me the holidays are all about balance and honestly knowing that you can still have those treats and increase your fruit/vegetable intake, your body and skin will thank you and you will feel fabulous!
So, put your feet up for the holiday season, leave the stress behind, enjoy the moments with family and friends and make it a holiday to remember!
Secrets of Foundations and Mineral Powders
You have thousands of choices when it comes to choosing a foundation and/or mineral powders for your face. But little do we know, not all of them work the way we want.
Commercials show celebrities advertising and selling "this amazing" product but at the same time, how come our faces are not as picture perfect as theirs? Also, every notice in skin cleansing commercials when they are cleansing their faces, they still have makeup on at the end. This will make you more aware next time you see those commercials.
The reason why we don't have "flawless" skin like the celebrities after we purchase the same products that they advertise is because we do not have the proper lighting, photo shop technology that hides and covers blemishes and unwanted acne scars and dark spots, and in everyday life we do not have the "edit video" option.
Not all makeup is going to give us the same results and most of the makeup and foundations are not going to agree with our body's chemistry.
What I mean by that statement is;
Ever notice after you apply a foundation and/or mineral powder and you wear it throughout the day and after you wash your face and wake up the next morning you have discovered a few areas of breakout? Or even after washing your face at the end of the day you notice instantly you have breakouts?
It's either (2) factors;
1) The foundation and/or mineral powder does not agree with your body's chemistry and has blocked your pores.
2) It is too heavy and filled with too many preservatives and causing your skin to lose the necessary oxygen that is needed for the regeneration of skin cells throughout the day.
Your skin is a giant living organism.
What I have taken away from the countless pennies spent on getting foundations, mineral powders, and tinted moisturizers is that the real truth is that, it is tough to find something the works well and how you want it to work. I have noticed that they are too heavy for my face, where i develop breakouts after using them. I have, like I said, tried mousse foundations, mineral foundations, and liquid foundations and no matter the company, i still have breakouts.
So what do I use now then?
I have been using Clinique Neutral Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15. I also use a light moisturizer underneath my tinted moisturizer because I find I need a little more moisture and it helps with giving a smoother finish after you apply your tinted moisturizer. I have grown attached to Clinique Spot Correcting Even Better Lotion with SPF 15.
In order for you to find what works best for you, you have to be willing to step outside the normal routine and products you have and try others. Usually they say a good rule of thumb is to try the product for a month, but I usually do 72 days because then you really know what to expect. Everyone is different and you will know when a product isn't good for you for whatever reason.
Sugar Scrub
Here is a facial exfoliant that I was asked to provide that is great for all skin types! Enjoy

Clean Face = Smooth Makeup Application
Alot of us do not pay attention to how clean our faces are before we put our makeup on.
Ever wonder why you get patchy spots when you apply your tinted moisturizer or foundation? It could one of may factors.
1) It could be you need to exfoliate your face with a good exfoliant - (Daily Microfoliant)
2.) You may not have a good base for your foundation application. For example a primer or a good moisturizer underneath. Arbonne Makeup Primer and Clinique Even Better Skin Tone Correction Moisturizer SPF 20
3.) You also may have not washed your face completely and you could have dirt, debris, left over makeup still on your face so its recommended that you double cleanse your face with a mild facial cleanser. Clinique Liquid Facial Soap
After you double cleanse your face, apply your moisturizer! You will notice how well your foundation/ tinted moisturizer applies.
By cleansing your face as well, you are deminishing the chances for developing a breakout and and face congestion. Your complexion will clear up with regular face washing. It is good to let your skin breathe 2x a week with just your moisturizer on it. Your skin and face will love you if you go bare/natural!

What Are The Do's and Don'ts of Applying Eyeliner Properly
When you apply your eyeliner make sure you wipe the edge of your pencil it could have debris and other makeup residue which creates problems with the eye if not taken care of properly.
Also, you do not want to apply liner to the lower lid because you are doing the opposite of enhancing your eyes, as well as, you are potentially blocking your tear ducts on the lid.
You can develop infections and could possibly hurt your eye site. Styes are an infection you can develop from applying the liner to the lid and blocking your tear duct.
If you want to create the dramatic look, apply the liner under your lower lashes. That will give you the definition you are looking for and also, you can smudge the liner under the eyelashes where as you cannot smudge the lower lid.

How Do You Shrink Large Pores?
Unfortunately, you cannot get rid of pores. But there is a way of dealing with them!
If you concentrate on a regular skin care routine of double cleansing your face in the morning, applying your toner (replenishing, refreshing, renewing w/a low dose of alcohol/salicylic acid) and your moisturizer, you will eventually notice a difference.
Also, you need to be making sure that you are doing the same routine at night as well. Usually at night is the perfect time to do a masque application. You would usually want to do a masque 3x a week but not the (3) days in a row.
Usually our skin type is genetic, so you really can not get away from large pores but you do have control of the situation and what happens to it!

Sanitizing Your Tweezers
If you are using your tweezers to pluck your eyebrows because you haven't got up the courage to get them waxed or you are just using them to touch up any hairs that randomly show up, you need to properly sanitize, clean and take care of them.
I do not expect you to have the big named chemicals and disinfectants like Barbicide but if you have mild liquid soap, nail brush (local dollar store) small candle holder and rubbing alcohol will work just perfectly and be affordable.
Before you put your tweezers into the rubbing alcohol you need to scrub your tweezers with the mild soap to remove any excess hairs, skin debris, dirt, oil etc. Rinse them with warm water and set the tweezers into the glass with the end you remove the hair into the alcohol solution.
Its important to do this because each time you are removing the hair follicle you remove a part of the hair (ball of the hair) that was under the skin and you have now exposed your open pore to dirt and debris, you just want to make sure every thing is sanitized and clean so you do not develop infections, ingrown hairs or spread any infections that could be contagious.

Never Share Your Makeup or Makeup Brushes!!
We all have had friends ask to use our eyeshadow, mascara, liners, and makeup brushes. But little do we know the debris, dead skin cells, bacteria that is left from our skin, has now been left on our brushes and/or in the product.
We do not think about the other side of what goes into our products after we use them. Pay close attention to when we share our product because you do not know about any infections, contraindications and you also do not want to catch anything or spread any infections.
To properly wash your brushes see related article: Make-up Brushes ~ How Often Should You Clean Them?
An easier way to share makeup is if it is brand new makeup and never used and you have been using disposables when using your products. That is the only safest way of not getting bacteria into your makeup and products.

Get Rid Of Those Bags and Puffiness Under Eyes
Do you ever wake up and your looking in the mirror and it looks like you have been crying all night or you look like you never really went to bed even though you did? Well i am pretty sure a lot of us females and yes males have experienced this. But don't you worry there are easy solutions to this small problem! It doesn't involve mixing a lot of things together or spending a whole lot of money on a product that eventually will not give you results right away.
Go to your local grocery store and grab a box of tea bags, preferably a soothing tea like Chamomile. Also, Mint would energize your eyes as well and works great at making you look awake! Tea Bags should be kept on the eyes for a good 20 minutes, so relax and take some quiet time!
Also, putting something cold on your eyes works as well. Remember those eye pads your mothers and grandmothers used to put on their eyes before they went to bed? Well, they work! Cold reduces the swelling so use more of it.
And finally, DRINK PLENTY OF WATER! Water is your best friend on most days! Never turn down water. It will help your skin glow as well as put the hydration and moisture back into your skin layers.

Change of Season, Change of Skin Care!
It's that time of year again where you should be changing your skin care products. As the weather is getting cooler and the temperature is beginning to drop we all need to be paying attention to how "dry" or "oily" our skin gets.
If you find that after you cleanse your face that it is really tight then you need to purchase a more intense hydrating moisturizer and balancing toner.
If you have find that your skin gets more oily after you cleanse your face, you need a line that will control the oil on your face!
During the Fall and Winter months it is all about using the opposite products the we use in the Spring and Summer months. Its all about the balancing of our skin and keeping the pH levels at the right levels.
Don't forget that no matter what day, month, year, weather, etc. you always need sunscreen. Just because some days the sun doesn't shine doesn't mean that you are still not getting sun damage. So make sure your moisturizer always has an SPF of at least 15 in it!

Make-up Brushes ~ How Often Should You Clean Them?
Your brushes are the reason your makeup goes on flawless and how you want that perfect look. Well, you cannot achieve that with dirty makeup filled brushes.
Brushes should be cleaned once a month really well to achieve the maximum results from the application of your makeup. But it is once a month for brushes you use for your powders (eyeshadow, blush, mineral foundation etc)
Every week should be on the brushes that you use liquid makeup on (concealer, foundation, liquid eyeliner, liquid shadow, etc)
Not only in your brushes are makeup particles it also has dead skin as well. As bad as it sounds, there is nothing like applying your makeup mixed in with month old dead skin. It doesnt sound right!
A great way to clean your brushes at home that also is a safe way of achieving the results is: "Mix (1) part shampoo with (4) parts water and then just let your brushes soak in that solution for a day.
When you take them out of the solution lay them down on a clean cotton towel and let them air dry. If you ty to dry the bristles you are just going to ruin your brush and the bristles are going to fall out.
Any other questions feel free to comment!

Is Your Lipstick or Lip Balm Sweating?
I know, it sounds funny, but it isn't uncommon. It happens more
frequently then you think to be honest.
Unfortunately, your products are starting to breakdown when they start to sweat. Which isn't a good thing to say the least.
Lipsticks and Lip Balms unfortunately start to become rancid after 3 years. Not only does the lipstick and lip balms expire, the ingredients will not provide you the best results as time goes by which then could lead you to cause problems for your skin.
Please throw your products away that have expired and that smell rancid! IT'S IMPORTANT

Sleeping with Make-up and Mascara On? Good or Bad??
Unfortunately, we have all done it at some point in our lives. And there are no benefits for sleeping with your make-up on at all, there are only side effects!!
Make-up is a product that is filled with preservatives, oils, petroleum, etc. And that stuff should be washed up before you enter dreamland!
At night while we are resting and relaxed, our bodies are doing crazy things and reenergizing and rejuvinating at its own speed. Our skin needs to be fresh and it needs to be able to breathe properly and if you have your makeup on your skin cannot breathe properly.
You are blocking your pores by keeping your foundation/powder etc on.
Have you ever woke up after a night out with the girls and you forgot to wash your face completely?
Yes. We all have!
Have you ever noticed certain spots on your face have developed breakouts?
Yes! That is because you either didnt wash your face or didnt completely clean it properly. Spending 15 minutes a day is the minimum amount of time to complete a great skin cleansing.
Sleeping with mascara on is a whole other situation that is not good! You should never sleep with mascara on, first off your lashes cannot breathe properly and grow (they fall out if they can"t breathe properly) and even though in the night your eyes are closed, you are still getting the particles into your eyes which then you can potentially be doing damage to your eyeball, cornea etc. Us as humans are prone to rub our eyes, well we can calculate the amount of times we rub our eyes in the middle of the night when we are sleeping.
Its just an FYI!
Hope this helps ya!

Pigmentation and Pregnacy
How do I get rid of pigmentation or the dark spots on my face that I developed once I became pregnant?
You need to add a good exfoliant to your daily skin care routine. You don't want to purchase an abrasive one but you also do not want a light one. One in the middle will work and you will see result. But that is only dependent on how sensitive your skin is.
You can also purchase a skin brightening creme which will help even out the skin tone as well.
Some products containing Kojic Acid, Hydroxy Acid etc. (do your research first though)
As long as you are following your daily routine and paying attention to the changes in your skin as well as your lifestyle and diet you should notice a difference 3-4weeks after you started.

Do You Know Where The Oily Parts Of Your Face Are?
Do you know where the oily parts of your face are?
Well here are steps to find out!
Step 1.
Wash your face with a mild soap and make sure you get all the soap off your face then to dry your face pat it dry. Don't rub it dry because then you're over stimulating the face and you can potentially damage your fresh skin cells.
Step 2.
Don't put any toner or moisturizer on your face because you want to find the oily parts so you don't want to add anything that could lead to adding more oil to your face. After waiting 30-60 minutes then take a clean and dry tissue (tissue paper would be your best solution).
Step 3.
Press the tissue paper to the face for one minute. After one minute remove the tissue paper from the face and Take a good look at where the mot oil production is. Once you know where the oily parts are of your face then you can attack the areas and change your skin care routine accordingly.
And voila, you have a cheap and easy solution for skin care!
The Why's of Potatoes!
So I have had a fair number of personnel read my potato entry and ask:

So next time your in your local supermarket, grab a few extra potatoes and spoil yourself! It will relax and make you feel great!
Product Expiry
Are You Keeping A Close Eye On Expiry Dates?
Some people don't look at the expiry dates on their make-up, skin care products etc. It is essential to find out the expiry date because you do not want to put anything on your face or close to your eyes that have expired because it could lead to other damage and breakouts. May even cause a reaction.
Feeling Stuffy? Not Able To Breathe?
Fighting A Stuffy Nose
Make an instant steam remedy by putting 3 to 5 drops of Eucalyptus essential oil on a washcloth, then placing the washcloth in the tub while you shower. The steam from the hot water will release the essential oil which vapourizes into the air and will help clear the sinuses.

| Potatoes Vs. Puffy Eyes! |
Potatoes are great for puffy eyes :) They say there is a certain compound in potatoes that’s been shown to help reduce swelling and puffiness. Using a vegetable peeler or a knife, shred a small amount of potato, let it chill in the fridge for a while, and then place the chilled potatos under your eyes. For the next 15 minutes or so, sit and read a good book or watch a little television. When you remove the potatoes, voila! Your eyes look great!
Tips Of The Trade!
Tip #1 ~Getting the Glow~
*There are times when we are jealous of "the perfect skin"
and would love to know how she is able to keep her skin looking so radiant. Well
here is the trick! To keep your face hydrated and looking its best always
exfoliate and hydrate. So no matter what time of day in the holiday season and
how cold it is you should always have the moisturizer handy for those tough
mornings when your running late.
Tip#2 ~Plump Gorgeous Lips
* Lip Gloss is your best friend during the winter months.
What I would recommend is put on some lip moisturizer as a base and then as your
lip gloss so that way you create a barrier so the cold winter chills and weather
doesn't chap your lips. As well as you are able to apply more after you eat and
it won't run away from you! Lip gloss should be your best friend along with your
moisturizer for the holidays!!
Tip #3 ~To Get The Gorgeous Make-Up Look~
* Everyone is going to pick something different for the
holiday look. That is why it is so flexible and functional for everyone. I would
choose the Sugar Plum Purples, The Evergreen Greens , The Silver and Golds work
well as well. You want it to be shimmery so don't be afraid to add that shimmer!
Also, while your mingling this holiday season you don't want to be talking and
having your mascara smearing so add some mineral powder under the eyes. You
produce natural oils on the skin so the mineral makeup will help get rid of any
unwanted oil throughout the night. Then there is the blush... Go Rosy this
season! There is nothing better then to show off a nice rosy cheek face
Pumpkin Facial
2 tsp. Canned pumpkin
1 tsp. Milk
1 tsp. Honey
1 tsp. Brown Sugar
Pumpkin Shake
3 Scoops Vanilla Ice Cream
2 tbsp. Pumpkin (canned)
1/4 tsp. Cinnamon
1/4 tsp. Milk
Blend until smooth altogether and sprinkle with cinnamon.
Which tastes fantastically delicious :)
Out Of Control Brows
Q :Ever wake up in the morning and after you shower and sometimes you are just way too tired to take the tweezers to those brows?
Well now there is a temporary solution!
A : Glide a little bit of lip gloss over your brows to help them stay against the skin and also hold them in place perfectly. The lip gloss is thick and it works well because the waxy texture really will hold those unruly brows in place!
Winter Blues
Q. How come after I shower, do my daily skin care routine and step outside and my skin feels so tight and dry? What can I do to help my skin?
A. First of all, you need a more hydrating moisturizer. In the winter time or cold weather your skin pH levels change which is the reason for the tightening(dehydration) also I myself notice dry skin as well. So you need to not throw out your moisturizer your using now, but to change it up and use the more hydrating intensive moisture for the cold winter months. But make sure you still have the SPF included because even though the sun is not out half the time you can still experience the results of pigmentation and sun damage!! Check out the line by Dermalogica! Excellent Products :)
